These are the arguments by both sides and from the Solicitor General's Office of the United States of America in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.

It's Heller versus the United States. It's the D.C. gun ban case, the most important

gun case in the history of this country, and you get to listen to it because you listen to the

Good morning, Mr. Chief Justice, and may please the court.

The Second Amendment was a direct response to concern over Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution,

which gave the new National Congress

the surprising, perhaps even shocking power to organize, armed, and presumably disarm the state

militias.

What is at issue this morning is the scope and nature of the individual right protected by the resulting

amendment. And the first text to consider is the phrase protecting a right to keep and bear

arms. And the debate over the second amendment, every person who used the phrase bear arms

used it to refer to the use of arms in connection

with militia service.
