The Naked Scientists

Hello and welcome to the Naked Scientists. I'm Helen Scales and this week I'm taking the show

underwater to explore my favorite realm. It's big, it's blue, it's where life began and

life certainly wouldn't be the same without it.

Yes, that's right. It's the sea.

Chris and the rest of the team have left me in charge and let me loose in the naked scientist's archive,

but I've been rummaging around and hunting down some of my favorite bits from past shows.

So I'm afraid there are no prizes for guessing that there will be an abundance of fish, turtles, jellyfish,

plus all sorts of other marine creatures swimming through this week's edition of the

Naked Scientists. Among my marine menagerie will be revisiting the incredible story of the squid that see not just

with their eyes, but all along their bodies too.

We'll once again meet the humming toadfish, a great little fish that is teaching us a thing

or two about making music.

We'll catch up with the clownfish that just like Nemo might soon need some help

finding their way home and will uncover the secret that giant sharks have been

keeping from us for a long time.

Where do they spend their winter holidays?

We'll also hear about some of the problems that the oceans are facing today

and how scientists are working on understanding and tackling those issues,

including what goes on at the seabed when a traw boat passes through,

dragging a huge heavy net behind it.
