Chapter 1. An introduction to bank vaults.

So let's start off this audiobook with the target of almost every heist, bank vaults,

and their little brother, bank safes, and dive into the history and development of them.

And while that was going on, the history and development of the techniques used to break in to those bank vaults and bank safes.

Okay. Off the top, there's going to be a lot of cross terminology when it comes to safes and vaults. When you really think about it,

safe is just a big vault. They're all the same as just a matter of scale, essentially.

Yeah, and tracking the evolution of bank vaults is really interesting because up until recently,

it's always been a bit of a cat and mouse game, you know, a company designed a safe.

They'd say it's like impenetrable.

Then a criminal learns a method to get past it.

They break into a bunch of banks.

Everyone goes back to square one.

Then the company develops a new technology

claiming this new vault is definitely impenetrable. Inevitably, same things happens over and over

and over. So the vault companies really owe criminals credit for not only pushing them to develop

new technologies, but also creating a market for them to sell new vaults ironically. And you see this in a lot of things too, right, Matt? Like, I mean, with steroids, it's like they never know about new steroids until they start surfacing the new steroids with hacking. You often see that the hackers do something new and then finally the security teams can figure it out. Yeah, it's a good point. The computer viruses, all those

things is just driving and then, you know, something becomes obsolete and then it keeps going. So

they're kind of almost in a partnership to a degree. Everyone's kind of winning in the scenario

except for banks, obviously. And trust and just human trust. All right. Let's get into the

sort of the history of it, where all this stuff comes from,

the development.
