Today's story is part two of our story, Hector's Flight. If you haven't heard part one or you don't remember it, we recommend you go back and listen to it first.

When we laughed off, Olive, who loves hedgehogs, was visiting a braided river in New Zealand. She had learned

that predatory mammals like rats, stotes, and ferrets are not native to New Zealand,

and are a major threat to ground nesting birds, like the black-fronted turn, which nests

around braided rivers, like the one where Olive's family was camping.

One day, while playing in the river, Olive followed a hedgehog up a path to a Department of Conservation

sign, where he surprised her by introducing himself politely as Hector and asking her to read

the sign for him. The sign explained that hedgehogs are also predatory mammals and a major threat to the

black-fronted turn, and it indicated that there was trapping in place to control hedgehog
