Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

This Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week.

The week Jesus suffered, died and rose so that we might gain heaven.

I thought it would be good to reflect today and tomorrow

on what Christ has gained for us

so that we will have an even greater gratitude

for what he went through to gain heaven for us.

But there is a problem of the way we normally think of heaven.

To those who have gone before us, we often say rest in peace.

Well, I love a good nap, but I don't want to take a nap forever.

I want to live and live to the fullest.

And we often describe heaven as the beatific vision, gazing at God, but the idea of just

looking at God forever seems kind of boring to me.

And I certainly don't want to sing in the choirs of angels forever.

They probably wouldn't let me anyway. And we may even fear death in heaven because we fear the end of all that is good and we fear boredom.

Earth seems so much more interesting than heaven, because there seems to be nothing

to do in heaven. And that's because we have an impoverished view of heaven.
