If you had to draw a church and you were a child, this is exactly what you would draw,

is a big tower in the west end, then a body of the church towards the east end, with

arched windows, quite gothic in style, and made of red brick.

It is literally an off-the-shelf Manchester 19th-century church, I say literal because when there

was a competition, the architect submitted one of his plans for a church I think that had

already been built, two examples of which can be found in Manchester or Blackburn.

But this isn't the north-west of England, it's Russia, and that was an Anglican vicar

who for six years has been the Church of England's man in Moscow, surely one of the most

extraordinary postings for any Anglican priest, St Andrew's Church, is just a short walk

from the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin's seat of power.
