Summary

On today’s episode of Hear Me Out: PSL (not the drink). Claudia de la Cruz cannot, mathematically, win the presidency. But she’s running anyway… because the two-party system doesn’t lend itself to real representation or the public interest. Claudia joins us to make the case for voting socialist, because the parties with all the power aren’t as different as they want you to think. We’ll also share an important update about the future of Hear Me Out at the end of the episode. After that, please feel free to email the show: [email protected] Podcast production by Maura Currie. This is Hear Me Out. I'm Celeste Hedley. A few months ago we had an expert on third-party

candidacy join us on this show. He echoed what a lot of Americans probably suspect,

0:11.3

that we need more than two parties for a healthy democracy, but also

0:16.0

The last time a third party candidate won any electoral college votes

0:31.0

was in 1968 before I was born when George Wallace exploited

0:36.2

some very racist sentiments that were lurking in the South. All of this is to say

0:41.8

that in a high stakesstakes election like this one, many of us

0:45.1

resent that there are only two choices, but we're going to fall in line behind one of

0:50.4

them anyway. But what if there's not really a lesser of two evils?

0:55.4

The honeymoon is over rather quickly.

0:58.1

And the people who are there to defend

1:00.9

the deficiency of the Democratic Party, the deficiency of the Democratic Party, the

1:03.2

deficiency of the Republican Party, come out and say,

1:05.8

well, they can't do it because X and Y,

1:07.4

then we need to ask ourselves,

1:08.8

is it really that they can't do it

1:10.4

or that for them is a policy choice to continue to ignore us.

1:14.0

Claudia de la Cruz of the Party for Socialism and Liberation joins Hear Me Out in just a moment.

1:20.0
