Last month's Maui wildfires were devastating. While mainstream media covered the story, the deep Indigenous histories were lost in the news cycle. Kanaka Maoli activist and co-founder of Maui Medics Healers Hui, Noelani Ahia, joins the show, offering a grounded perspective from Maui.

1:06.7	Thanks for that. And can you talk a little bit about Lahaina and why it is such a sort of hub, like a cultural hub and a place where there's

1:22.1	You know Lahaina going back as far as we have documentation, which because of our chance that were passed
1:28.2	down orally is thousands of years worth of Mo'uau-Cuau-How or genealogy,
1:33.8	Mo'lello or stories about places
1:36.4	that are significant and important to our people.
1:39.9	And Lahaina is one of those places.
1:43.0	Lahaina means the sweltering sun,
1:45.0	but the original, one of the older names of Lahaina
1:48.8	is Lahaina I Kamalu-Uleole.
