0:39.0	Nate, did you know that almost 40 million Americans suffer from some amount of hearing loss?
0:43.2	I had no idea it was that common.
0:45.2	It is, and that's why Frequency Therapeutics, a biotech company, is hoping to help those people
0:50.0	and the nearly 1 billion people around the world who also suffer from it by inventing a way to reverse hearing loss.

0:57.7	I imagine they're doing something different than making hearing aids?
1:01.1	Yes, it's not a device or an implant. They're trying to regrow the
1:04.9	fine hairs that help us hear. They do that by supercharging the cells our body already
1:08.9	has. The results have been promising so far. That's great. How do they do it? It's a regenerative
1:14.3	medicine that targets the hairs within the cochlea. The cochlea, that's part of your
1:18.6	inner ear, right? Yes, and it is crucial to hearing. Now humans are born with about 15,000 of these hair cells in each ear,
1:25.6	but we lose them over the course of our life
1:27.2	to things like loud noises, aging, and infections.
