the calls for the penalties were mine. My mine, my decision to ask the players to take the

penalties that they did and so you know they've got to walk away from here heads held high.

They've done more than any other team in the last 50 or so years.

So in terms of the players, they should be incredibly proud of what they've done.

Toby, I couldn't help noticing that you went to a sporting event last night.

I went to the final of the euro 2020 football tournament which American

listeners just they couldn't give less of a toss could they I imagine most most

of them won't even be aware of the existence of the

euros but it's it's quite a big deal in England and this was a particularly big deal

because we haven't been the England football team haven't been in the

final of an international soccer tournament since 1966 let alone won one so doesn't that So, doesn't that say just how completely crap we are?

I mean, so 66 was the year after I was born,

and I don't remember winning the World Couple.

They did have it rammed down one's throat over the ensuing years about this was our moment of glory and

you knew the names of the players who scored the goals and all that sort of thing.

And we've waited till now to get... The Euros, it's not the World Cup though, is it?

No, it's not the World Cup, so it's more impressive to win the World Cup.

And there is a World Cup next year, so Hope Springs Eternal.

But it would have been something.
