With nearly every single case that results in murder, there are moments that stick out,

making us bask ourselves, what if?

What would happen if these series of events went differently?

when one man just somehow managed to slip through the cracks of the legal system,

avoiding hard time only to find himself facing it yet again years later.

The motel was located just off the main highway in town and at first glance.

It appeared to be the usual type of CD lodging that one may expect a late-night 911 call to.

But once authorities arrived at the motel at around 6 a.m., they were met with a body of 21-year-old

Benjamin Montoya, lying in the parking lot with a bullet wound to the chest.

The single-story lodging had the common motel layout of individual rooms, all facing to the

parking lot where Benjamin now lay.
