This is the first in a series of public hearings. The public stage of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump is entering its second week.

The question of whether Mr. Trump tried to coax his Ukrainian counterpart into investigating a

political rival by withholding military aid is dominating Washington.

After two days of testimony last week in front of the cameras, come three more.

Eight witnesses are due to be heard this week.

The hearings are absorbing an enormous amount of attention in Washington. John Fasman is our Washington correspondent.

I went up to the hill on the first day last Wednesday and I arrived at what I thought was

a prudent two hours early in the line outside the Ways and Means Committee room already

stretched all the way down the hall. And i was sort of stuck between two conversations one was a bunch of

photographers trading tips on how to get the best witness pictures and the other was a bunch of

hill interns you know college students steeped an impeachment arcana the better question i think is
