Hebrew chapter 11 will only be there for a moment, but it will undergird everything we're going to

study together.

Now listen to it in the NIB, it says, and without faith faith it is impossible to please God because anyone who

comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who

earnestly seek him.

Hmm.

So all in the world we have to do is believe that God exists. I don't know about you but I have a tough time with that. I have a

tough time with thinking that what's really going to please God is for me to have the faith that it would take to just believe that

God exists because we're told in the book of James that the demons certainly

believe that. We know a whole lot of people that we could ask do you believe in God and they would immediately say yes I

believe God exists. Had the opportunity to talk to a man not very long ago and when I was in another city just days ago

standing out in front of a hotel waiting to take off and and he said,

what God had done for us that day, and I said,

are you a Christian?

And he said, no, but I believe in God. So is this scripture telling us that all it takes to please him

is just to believe that God exists and that he will reward you if you will seek him.

I don't believe that's what it's saying.

I don't believe that's what the concept means. I love the NIV. It's a wonderful

layman kind of language, but I want to take it out and I'm going to have them put up on

the PowerPoint, the words in the King James version that I believe will give us some

key to what this verse is trying to get through to us.
