Good evening once again. I am Stephanie Rule, and welcome to the midweek nightcap. It is day 45 of the second Trump

administration. Almost 48 hours ago, the president's tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China went into

effect. And now the White House has made a notable, quite big exemption. Automakers, compliant with the

USMCA trade deal, were granted a one-month delay in paying the 25%

duty on vehicles coming from their Canadian and Mexican factories. That included the big three,

Ford, GM, and Stalantis. Trump is reportedly open to more exemptions. On this news, the stock

market rebounded after two days of big, big losses. But earlier today,

the Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik reminded everybody that this is only a one month pass,

many out of this. There's going to be a short period of time where there'll be some higher

prices on certain products. It's not inflation. That's nonsense.

It's certain products for a short period of time.

Okay, don't call it inflation.

Call it a big, juicy sales tax.

The CEO of Target has already warned that food prices could go up in the next couple of days.

And according to the Washington Post,

Americans can expect to pay an extra 20 cents per gallon of gas and an additional 50 cents for each avocado almost immediately.
