Hi, everyone. Thanks for joining us. I'm Jasmine Clark. I'm Amanda Weinstein. I'm Rachel Vindman. And you're listening to the Suburban Women Problem. We are now six weeks until the November elections. We mentioned before that this may be an odd year, but it's not an off year. So we're going to keep talking about why it matters until election day.

And speaking of elections, this week I talked to Gabby Goldstein of Sister District, an organization

working to get diverse progressive candidates elected. Sister District actually supported my campaign

as well, so it's really nice to catch up with Gabby.

But before we get to that, how are y'all and what have you been seeing in the news?

I have a question for Amanda, because this, I am so confused by this.

All I keep hearing are concerns about the economy, and yet I keep reading that the economy is good.

So why aren't people feeling it? Oh, economists are asking this right now, too, because based on

every economic metric that we have in our little tool belt, the economy is chugging along

actually really well. Like, we're all like, this is great,

guys. We're doing pretty well here. And Americans are not feeling it by any metric of what

Americans are feeling. Americans are feeling kind of very gloomy, as one economist,

Claudia Sam put it, that we're feeling pretty gloomy and gloomier than we have even the past.

Even when you look at super high inflation in the 1970s, we're feeling gloomier than we have even the past. Even when you look at super high inflation

in the 1970s, we're feeling gloomier now, even as inflation is starting to cool. And we don't exactly

know why we're so gloomy. I have some theories. I have some theories too. Yeah. We got

to like low prices for a while.

And yeah, I think part of it is we just got used to low prices.
