Now this was famed Cambridge physicist priest John Polkinghorn in conversation with

US physicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross of Reasons to Believe in a show that was

first broadcast in October 2010.

They were taking listener questions on whether Hawking was right or wrong to dismiss

God as a cause of the universe in his new book The Grand Design.

John Polkinghorn himself passed away earlier this year in March 2021.

Let's introduce you both first gentlemen, perhaps we could start with you John.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, many people may be familiar with your story but

for those who aren't, how do things start out for you on the scientific front, how

did you get involved in being a physicist?

I was interested in my undergraduate days and the way you can use mathematics to understand

things.

because Christian faith is always the intention of my life.

I decided, unfortunately, my wife also decided

that getting old age was the next thing to do.

So I did that and then I went and parish life for a few years.
