The governor of the US state of Hawaii says the burnt out tourist town of Lahaina

is like a war zone after it was all but destroyed by fire.

The cost of rebuilding has been put at five and a half billion dollars

and people on the island of Maui are calling for more government help.

The flames are now largely under control,

but thousands have been left homeless and people are still missing.
