Summary

Business of HYPE is back for a special one-off episode with none other than comedian, producer, writer and political commentator, Hasan Minhaj. From being the senior correspondent on The Daily Show, to speaking at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, to his own comedy special and weekly Netflix show called Patriot Act, to even being named TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world, Hasan Minhaj is a pioneer.

Hasan worked alongside jeff's creative agency, Reed Art Department to create his first footwear collaboration with Cole Haan.  This partnership comes just in time before his next drop, releasing on December 3 and brings to life Hasan’s personal journey of breaking rules and writing new ones. Recorded in Hasan's hometown of Davis, the episode uncovers the early days of his career to his current days of working through COVID-19. As things continue to be unpredictable during this time, Hasan reminds that for him "it's about understanding and embracing the unknown."

Thank you so much for tuning into this special bonus episode brought to you by Cole Haan

From Hype Beast Radio, I'm Jeff Staples, and this is the business of hype, a show about creative entrepreneurs, brand builders, innovators, and the realities behind the dreams they've built.

0:47.3

Hey listeners, it's Jeff Staples here. And I know, I know. Business of hype has taken a bit of a hiatus. But you know, with a worldwide pandemic and all, traveling and meeting up with inspiring people is extremely challenging.

I tried doing a few call-in episodes, and to me, they just weren't the same. So I decided to put

1:02.9

the business of hype on pause until we could get all these problems sorted out. Now, occasionally,

1:09.4

the stars do align, and I find myself in situations where

1:13.5

I can safely sit down and actually interview someone. For example, on a big budget production

shoot where everyone is screened and rapid tested and living in a COVID-free bubble. And it just so

1:26.5

happened that I found myself in said

1:29.0

situation, bubbled up with this week's guest. So anyway, hopefully this doesn't mean it's the

1:35.7

be-all end-all for the podcast, and when the opportunities do present themselves, I can still

1:40.6

record an episode. So I'm happy to say that we are back for a very special one-off

1:46.5

show. So today's guest and I have had the opportunity to become really close working partners

1:52.2

over the past year, and it's been an honor. His resume is impressive, to say the least. From being

1:58.9

the senior correspondent on the daily show Show to speaking at the White House

Correspondence Dinner, to his own comedy special and weekly Netflix show called The Patriot Act,

2:09.3

to even being named Times 100 most influential people in the world.

Hassan Minhaj is a pioneer.

2:17.2

By trade, he's a comedian, a producer, writer, political commentator, actor, TV host, and now

2:24.6

a shoe designer.

2:26.9

The reason why this episode came to life was because Hassan and I worked together, along

with my creative team at the Reed Art Department, to create his

very first footwear collaboration with Cole Hahn. Together, we worked with Hassan from
