Welcome to another episode of Why Are You Laughing, a history of comedy podcast.

And today, I am pleased to introduce to you Harvey Pekar versus David Letterman,

one of the greatest late night guests ever in my, in my, uh, personal opinion.

And I didn't really know Harvey Pekar. I was aware of the film American Splendor and that it was a

comic book back in the day. Uh, but I didn't know much else about Harvey Pekar. I didn't know that

there was a ton else to know. Um, but I realized he may have been one of the greatest Letterman guests of all time.

And I saw a clip on Instagram a couple weeks ago of Harvey P. Carr and David Letterman going at

it.

And I was kind of like in my mind, I have this weird hang up where I was like, I wish we could

do an episode of why are you laughing about this,

but I don't know if Harvey Pekar is a big enough topic. And then I'm like, oh, wait, we did an episode about Bobo from Opian Anthony. I guess we can do whatever we feel like. That's right. So here it is. Harvey P. Carr, I'm David Letterman. And Letterman really one of the first late night guests to have a whack pack.

You know, like Howard gets credit for that.

But David would bring in these characters that were really strange and bizarre.
