In Patrick Zuskin's dark and haunting novel perfume, the character Jean-Batisse Grinwe is a man born with a heightened sense of smell, but no scent of his own.

His life becomes a single-minded pursuit to create the perfect fragrance no matter the cost.

To achieve this, he stalks and kills young women, believing that their essence holds the secret to his twisted masterpiece.

Grenway manipulates his victims with precision and cruelty,

viewing them not as people, but as objects in his quest.

In the 1950s, Harvey Glatman, a seemingly ordinary man, also harbored an all-consuming obsession,

one rooted in capturing the final moments of life.

Gladman posed as a photographer using his camera to lure women under the guise of modeling jobs.

Once in his grasp, his victims, like Grenways, were reduced to nothing more than tools in his own disturbing fantasy.

He photographed them in their most vulnerable moments before carrying out his horrific crimes.

Both Grenwee and Glatman exhibited chilling similarities.

They operated under a guise, lured their victims to a false sense of security,

and believed their actions were a means to fulfill a personal deranged goal.

But at the heart of both is a cold calculating killer who saw their victims not as human beings,

but as vessels for their dark desires.
