Is Umbridge a poltergeist?

Umbridge, am I right?

Just the name alone is enough to send a shiver down my spine and cause a prickling on the back of my hand.

And for good reason, her brand of evil is all too familiar.

It's not like Dark Lord stuff, ignoring laws, committing crimes, acting for the greater good.

No, no, no. This time it's the person inside the system, using, or when needed, creating guardrails to enforce her will and maintain control. And of course I say she operates within the system, but we also know that she's willing to not only bend, but also break some rules to accomplish her goals. But I mean, like who's really hurt by like a rogue Dementor attack, some

light torturing, unauthorized truth serum, interrogation and also some less light torturing?

Cornelius doesn't know, won't hurt him. Yeah, I'm not so sure Cornelius is the one we were

ever worried you were going to hurt.

But the odd thing about Umbridge and the part that I almost think breaks down the walls of plausibility behind her character have less to do with her willingness to hurt minors.

And instead it's the fact that she is never truly and honestly like

Evil. Nope, sorry I take that back. She is completely evil, but through the lens of the story, she's almost a third party altogether

She obviously isn't aligned with Harry Dumbledore's army or the Order of the Phoenix

But she's also not a death eater or part of Voldemort's regime at all. At least not formally.

You're lying.

So then what's guiding her? Because while it seems like it's Fudge for a decent portion of the series,

we do, quite fortunately, ultimately see him get houseded.

But then fast forward a bit and we see that despite Fudge's absence and Umbridge's own failure

as the Hoggworts High Inquisitor, her position within the ministry remains quite steadfast

through Deathly Hallows and under pious, thickness.

How thick could you get?
