I'm Brad Milkie. Usually a vetting team for a presidential nominee spends months researching potential running mates, evaluating risks and rewards.

The team around Vice President Kamala Harris had 16 days.

We've now learned that this weekend after the list was narrowed down from 12

possible names to nine to three she spoke to the finalists in person Arizona

Senator Mark Kelly Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walls.

Throughout Washington, the thinking was that Shapiro might just be the front runner.

He's a bit younger than Harris is, he's dynamite on the stump, so if you're trying to capitalize on this

ground swell of support from young Democrats in their brat summer, this would be the guy.

But sources familiar with the interviews say that when he spoke to Harris in person, his team at least did not think it went that great.

On Sunday sources say he called Harris to say he wasn't sure he should leave his job as Pennsylvania
