Summary

How do we one, handle them with health, and two, allow them to make the good things in life even better? This ends my series on Susan Cain and her book and message, Bittersweet, How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole. Susan was my guest in episodes 1020 and 1021 and now I talk with Tom Ziglar about it, and it’s such an interesting discussion. Tom is of course son to Zig Ziglar. Zig is one of the most renowned names in inspiration and motivation worldwide and known for positivity. I’m concerned people think he was just Mr lemonade out of lemons with books like See You At The Top and don’t realize he also wrote Confessions of A Grieving Christian after his 46 year old daughter Suzan dies of a lung disease. This was at the height of Zig Ziglar’s success, influencing over 250 million people to embrace positive perspectives. As you’ll hear Tom share, following Suzan’s death, Zig walked his dog and cried, near daily, for two years. He didn’t deny the sadness and the pain, and even after he made some recovery, he never forgot. But he also let it refine and strengthen him and he stayed true to his faith and purpose. As you’ll hear, this is much of our discussion, how our faith and purpose ultimately influences how we weather the daily disappointments and let downs, and the big traumas of life. Self-Help(ful) is presented by Ziglar, the most trusted brand in personal and business development impacting over 250 million people worldwide.
