Hello America and happy Tuesday, happy new year.

Yes, we're in a new year.

And what a way the new year has started.

The vote for House Speaker, Republicans choosing their next leader, has twice thwarted Kevin

McCarthy this afternoon from being speaker.

Two consecutive votes.

McCarthy, the California Republican and long time Republican leader has been thwarted

in his bid to be speaker.

The voter rala could go on for a while.

There could be some backroom dealing that goes on.

We're going to go to Nick Balesee in just a few minutes.

He'll give us the very latest of what's occurring on Capitol Hill on dramatic day.

Just to put this in perspective, it's been a century since a speaker's vote required

a second vote.

This one's going to require a third vote.

A lot of extraordinary moments are going on in the forefront of this vote.

What is going on here is there's a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party.

There is a belief among a small but vocal part of the party that Kevin McCarthy can't

create the sort of radical change that Americans were looking for when they put Republicans

in charge of the Congress.

And what's remarkable is that Jim Jordan gave a nominating speech after the first vote
