Summary

According to his website, Salvatore Sapienza is an ordained minister serving as pastor of the UCC church in Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan, where he lives with his husband, Gregg. Listen carefully and see if you can spot how this one Progressive Christian pastor twists John 3:16 to reject the Gospel. Note the rhetorical move of pretending that those who don't agree with him are mean-hearted and delight in condemning people. Note how he isolates one part of one verse from its full context so that he can more easily pretend it teaches something very different than it really does. Note, most of all, how a thoughtful reading of Scripture in context will protect you from nice-sounding, false doctrines. Do you want to see the whole video this is from? It's a full analysis of this pastor's sermon on John 3:16. Deeply troubling. CLICK HERE to view. My website: https://BibleThinker.org

What is it about John 316 that Evangelical Christians love so much?

0:07.6

Why is it favorite, favorite Bible verse that they want to tell everybody about?

0:13.6

Well, I'd like to think it's the first six words that say,

0:18.8

for God, so loved the world.

0:23.1

Wouldn't that be awesome? If that was the message they wanted,

0:27.1

everybody to hear and everybody to know that God loves you so much.

0:34.7

But sadly, I believe it's the latter part of the verse that they want to emphasize and make

0:42.1

clear that Jesus is the only way that leads to salvation. The misunderstanding over John 316

0:52.1

has led many Christians in America today to believe that one must accept Jesus as their Lord

0:58.6

and Savior, or they will be condemned to hell. That is not what John 316 means. That is not

1:06.9

what Jesus is saying in today's gospel. So what does it mean? What is he saying?

1:13.6

Well, let's look at it together. He promises he's going to look at John 316

1:18.0

together, like you would expect a Bible study here, like actually read the verses and look

1:22.0

at them in context. That's never going to happen in his message. It's never going to happen.

1:26.1

But it's going to happen for us. So let's just look briefly at John 316 because this will protect

1:30.8

you against most false teaching is that you just read the verses yourself and see the connections

1:36.6

in context. So briefly, let me just remind us, John 3, this is a conversation between Jesus and

1:42.8

Nicodemus. He's a rabbi who considers himself a pious Jew, right? And he acknowledges Jesus

1:49.7

from God. He goes, we know you're a teacher from God to Jesus. He says this for no one can do the

1:52.9

science you do unless God is with him. Then Jesus says to him, this really radical statement,

1:57.0

you, unless you're born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus, even though you're

2:02.8

a Pharisee, even though you're, even though you're acknowledging, right, that there's something
