Summary

My guest for this Encounter episode is Liz Curtis Higgs. Liz Curtis Higgs loves the Lord, loves His Word, and loves His people. In this show, Liz shares about growing up attending church as more of a small town ritual, but when she turned sixteen she chose to live her life as she wanted. Liz got caught up in the “sex, drugs and rock n’ roll” lifestyle for years, until meeting a couple who were new believers and consistently reminded Liz of Christ’s love for her. That was the beginning of Liz eventually giving her life to Christ. I love the way Liz talks about the couple that she became friends with - they never forced anything on her, they simply loved her. This is something that Liz believes wholeheartedly, she says,“We don’t need to actually put a Bible in their hands straight up at the start. First we need to love them, and then we can introduce them to this love letter from God.” For the full summary and links to the show, click below! Some of those encounters have been mysterious.

I was on the floor of a public bathroom. It was February 10th of 2001, and I was just

0:31.6

sort of bawling. I was watching my tears hit the floor and I just said, God help me.

0:37.1

And I have no idea why I said it.

0:39.0

Or like the woman at the well that we read about in John chapter 4, who met Jesus and despite

0:44.2

what her culture might have shamed her for, Jesus offers her living water and her life was

0:49.2

never the same.

0:50.2

It was really surprising to me, like my vision of Jesus was sort of like an ancient George W.

0:55.6

Bush wrapped in a toga.

0:57.0

And I was like, the character of Jesus can't be interesting to me.

1:00.2

Like I want to marry a woman's Sunday.

1:01.4

I'm very intellectual. This can't be true, but he just drew me in.

1:05.6

Or like when Simon Peter meets Jesus and has an encounter with Him while fishing, and

1:10.5

he left everything to follow Him.

1:13.0

I would kind of walk into church every now and then and I would just leap and I didn't

1:17.1

know why.

1:18.1

My soul would just leap and I'd walk out of there and be like, I'm never going in there
