Summary

Today is our very first episode of our summer series, Encounter! We have so many fun guests coming up this summer and I can’t wait for you to hear these stories. In this episode, I actually share some of my story with you of how I encountered Jesus. I read a bit from my first book, If You Only Knew which talks about how I came to Christ after a life of living for myself. I also got to talk with an incredible young woman, Sidney Runeburg. Sidney is a student at the University of Texas, and the first time I saw her was actually at a baptism service at our church, The Austin Stone. Sidney did not grow up as a follower of Jesus and struggled a lot with performance and perfection. After starting at UT, she decided to join a sorority and girl named Kristen asked her if she wanted to join a Bible Study! 0:10.1	For those of us that are following Jesus, we've all had an encounter with Him at some

0:15.9	Some of those encounters have been mysterious.
0:18.1	Like we read about, we're Saul encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus in Acts 9,

0:24.9	I was on the floor of a public bathroom. It was February 10th of 2001, and I was just
0:31.3	I just started bawling. I was watching my tears hit the floor and I just said, God help

0:37.0	And I have no idea why I said it.
0:39.0	Or like the woman at the well that we read about in John chapter 4, who met Jesus and
0:43.7	despite what her culture might have shamed her for, Jesus offers her living water and

0:51.5	Like my vision of Jesus was sort of like an ancient George W. Bush wrapped in a toga.
0:57.0	And I was like, the character of Jesus can't be interesting to me.
1:00.2	Like I want to marry a woman's in day. I'm very intellectual. This can't be true.
1:03.6	But he just drew me in.
1:05.6	Or like when Simon Peter meets Jesus and has an encounter with Him while fishing, and
1:10.5	he left everything to follow Him.
1:12.9	I would kind of walk into church every now and then and I would just weep and I didn't
1:17.0	know why.
