Hey everyone, we're so excited to announce that American hysteria is back for season

4 on October 19th.

And this time, we're going to investigate in depth what we're calling our vehicles of

hysteria, the ways that our false fears and fantastical thinking spread through our

national community.

On previous seasons, we've explored moral panics like stranger danger and satanic ritual abuse,

and conspiracy theories like the Illuminati and the Gay Agenda, urban legends like Poison

Halloween candy and phantom clowns, fantastical thinking like talking to the dead and quackery,

and we've broken down some of the most American of archetypes like hipsters and red necks.

For season 4, I'm going to be covering everything from true crime to televangelists, from tabloid

talk shows to fake news to see how our various forms of pop culture and the media shape the

reality we share, or sometimes the reality we don't.

In these unprecedented times, our team hopes to keep examining how misinformation and disinformation

have influenced and manipulated our culture, politics, and social hierarchies all the

way from the Puritans to the present.

We'll try to explain to how our biology, psychology, sociology, history, and national

mythologies have all merged to create our very unique American story.

Beginning October 19th, join me, your host, Chelsea Weber Smith, as I travel down the

disinformation super highway and buckle your seat belts as we see together where this

road through the dark and spooky woods will ultimately lead us all.
