Hey there, Jen here, and this is a happy bit. I want to talk about loving what you do,

0:07.9

whether that's a career or being a stay-at-home mom or a hobby that you have,

0:13.5

or maybe even the people you have in your life, loving who you're with. Well, a lot of us think

0:19.3

that love is something we fall into and we'll experience

0:21.9

love when our circumstances are just right. But that is not true. The fact is that our feelings

0:29.0

are caused by our thoughts. We believe our circumstances cause our feelings, but it's really

0:34.9

our thoughts about our circumstances that cause our feelings.

0:39.8

Many years ago, before my husband and I moved to the house we're in now, we lived in Madison

0:44.9

in a three-bedroom house, and we had child number five and knew it was time to move.

spending. So my husband said to me, Jen, we can do this house, but you're going to need to contribute X amount

1:18.6

of dollars toward the mortgage. Well, at the time, I had this little hobby business online

1:24.2

that was selling some gifts through something called drop shipping. Well, right after we moved,

1:31.1

lo and behold, Google changed their algorithm and suddenly my business, which was ranking on the

1:37.4

first page of Google, dropped to nowhere to be seen. And I lost all income. So quickly we had a mad scramble and I decided,

1:47.9

okay, I didn't want to send my kids to child care. I wanted to raise them like I had their

1:52.7

older ones who were in school. And so I started an in-home child care business. I had a PhD in

1:59.6

human development and family studies. It was pretty easy

2:02.2

to find some higher paying clients. And suddenly, in addition to my own five children at the time,
