Our current theme is fairy tales around the world and today we have a German fairy tale,

Hansel and Gretel, told by Paul Olbra, who told you the Tinderbox.

Note to parents, this story has a couple of moments of witchy's scariness, but it's

worth powering through the eke moment because it's also funny. How are you super great kids?

Are you having an okay week? January can be slightly gloomy here in the UK and in northern Europe, so I'm always

looking for things to brighten my day. Like last week's fairy tale about plum and tatterhood,

that really made me laugh. And today's tale, Hansel and Gretel also has its funny moments in spite of including a witch who likes to eat children.

The storyteller is Paul Olbra who told you the story, The Tinderbox, which has a dog with eyes as big as dinner plates.

Somehow, Paul makes this fairy tale much kinder and funnier than the

original Grimm's version. For a start, it has a pet potato. And if one of the things that

makes you happy is live storytelling and you're in or near London, then Super Great Kids Stories

Regulus Amy Douglas and Jason Buck are holding their own event to mark National

Storytelling Week in England and Wales. Join them in a celebration of dragons,

boggots and bogals for a 45-minute storytelling

session. It's in the Hotel Indigo in Clark & Well in London. It's on January the 31st and February the 1st.
