Summary

Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, recently spoke with the Most Reverend Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) of Diokleia. In this brief episode, Hank asked his Eminence to share the remarkable account of how he became Orthodox as a young man. Significant influences in the Metropolitan’s life included the writings of the Desert Fathers and a particular experience he had within an Orthodox Church in London—an experience of “heaven on earth,” of being one in the worship of God with the total invisible church.

0:56.4	Let me say this, that my guess the most reverent metropolitan Calistos wear is a fascinating
1:08.1	man who became Orthodox as a result in part of reading about the Desert
1:15.6	Fathers and then walking into an Orthodox Church in London. Calistos, as he is known, his name as an
1:27.4	Orthodox Christian taught Eastern Orthodox
1:31.0	Studies at Oxford from 1966 to 2001, and then in 2007 he was made titular Metropolitan
1:40.0	of the Ecumenical Throne.
1:42.5	On a personal note, I came to know him through his many writings,
1:46.4	not the least of which is the must-read classic that is titled the Orthodox Church,
1:53.0	subtitled an introduction to Eastern Christianity. It's a fabulous resource. We do make it
2:00.2	available for those who stand shoulder to shoulder with us in the battle for life and truth.
2:06.6	Anyway, with that by way of introduction, I'd like you to hear his account, the account from his own lips of how he came to be involved with the Orthodox Church.
2:22.1	I was born into a family that was traditionally Anglican, or you would say, in the state's Episcopalian.
2:34.0	And so I was brought up from early childhood to go to church to pray.
2:43.0	And I have positive memories of my experience and upbringing in the Anglican Church.
