Summary

"I come out of this with a sense of humor, and also some toxic skills. If there's anybody out there who kind of identifies here, these skills served you when you were young. So we don't want to shame those. Like, why am I this way? Why do I respond this way? Through the therapy I've been through, I would say you have to thank that part of you. For enabling you to survive. Because without my anger, I wouldn't have survived without the ability to fight. I think self-compassion is usually the answer for sustaining long-term change where you say, you know what, thank you for that."

You might describe it as like walking on eggshells, right?

0:04.0

Because we pretend everything is fine.

0:06.0

Pretend, pretend, pretend, pretend.

0:08.0

Something blows up and then we all go back to pretending.

0:13.0

No one ever says, hey, should we deal with that?

0:15.0

I don't know if that's normal.

0:17.0

And again, as a kid, you don't know that it's not normal. It's hard to explain to someone

0:23.8

when you're in that. Someone says, why don't you reach out for help? Well, you don't know that

0:30.8

you're supposed to. This is Ashley Stone, and you're listening to The Comeback Podcast.

This episode is brought to you by a very, very special brand called Memoir.

0:53.7

What makes this brand so special is that it's jewelry

designed for one simple purpose, which is to help us always remember the Savior. For years,

1:02.5

the main outward symbols of discipleship have been things like a cross necklace or a CTR ring,

1:08.1

and both are wonderful, but Memoir creates beautiful, faith-inspired pieces

1:12.6

that give us more ways to express our discipleship.

1:15.7

Each piece carries a quiet reminder of Christ's life and sacrifice, and it makes such a

thoughtful gift, whether someone's walking through a really hard season or celebrating a sacred

1:24.9

milestone like baptism, temple endowment or a mission call.

1:29.2

I have mine on right now. I have my disciple bracelet. I love it so much. I wear it every single

day and I never take it off. It's more than just jewelry. It's a way to keep our Savior close and to

wear a reminder of our faith every single day. So go to mamoid jewelry.com and use code
