it is monday august fourth 2025 welcome back Hang Up and Listen, the sports podcast here at Slate. Back with you yet again. I'm Alex Kirsner. I'm a contributing writer for Slate, and I co-host Split Zone Duo, a national college football podcast. We have a full and fun show for you this week, or an interesting show. I don't know if it's all fun, but it's a heavy topic to start. The United States has a couple of high-profile international sporting events

coming stateside over the next few years. We're going to talk with the sports writer Roger Sherman,

a longtime Olympics obsessive, who will join us to talk about how the United States' immigration

maneuvering might affect one of those events in particular.

ESPN struck a deal with the NFL to give itself access to a bunch of big-time media assets like Red Zone and the NFL network. It's a massive deal that will subtly, or maybe not

subtly, change how we consume the biggest sport in the country. We'll talk about that too.

And in baseball, the most catastrophic trade deadline was probably that of

the Minnesota Twins, who appeared to be not so much trying to win ball games as to slim down for a sale.

Stoppage time. Game winner in your first game back from injury after getting a lot of criticism

for how you spent your time away from the team when you were rehabbing.

I love it. Did everybody else know about that celebrity couple with Ben Shelton? Or was I the last person to learn about that one? Did you just learn about this weekend? We were the two last ones, I think. Yeah. I think I didn't know about it until like a week or two ago, probably. It looked good together. Yeah, it was just, it was heavily featured during like French Open Wimbledon time.

So. Yeah, it feels like it feels like I probably should have picked up on it. But, you know. Also, Instagram. You got to, you got to follow the Instagrams. Also, I have not been doing my job.
