Summary

“We tell the stories of Scripture over and over because they anchor us and remind us of what's true when things get blurry.”  This is a quote from Melissa Zaldivar’s book titled, “What Cannot Be Lost: How Jesus Holds Us Together When Life is Falling Apart.” We loved talking with Melissa on this week’s episode as we discussed grief and loss. In her book, Melissa tells the story of losing her friend Jill to cancer as she weaves together threads of the life of Louisa May Alcott, the author of “Little Women.” It is a beautiful, hopeful, and heavy story of how Jesus can meet us in whatever situation we find ourselves in. In today’s conversation, we talk about how to rightly handle the Scriptures when faced with loss, how to help others that are in grief, and where hope is found even as grief lingers. You may be experiencing a season of loss or you may be walking with someone who is in tremendous grief. Wherever you find yourself today, be encouraged by the truths of Scripture and the hope found in the gospel. Jesus will hold you together, just as He holds all things together (Colossians 1:17).   Sign up for the Daily Grace Podcast Newsletter and receive the free resource "Scripture for Every Season.”   Time Stamps: 0:56 - About Melissa2:43 - Favorite things4:07 - Melissa’s story of grief and loss7:25 - What it was like writing on grief as she was walking through it10:10 - Rightly handling Scripture in the midst of grief15:22 - How grief surprised Melissa18:13 - Encouragement for those who are grieving20:16 - Encouragement for those walking alongside someone who is grieving23:37 - What the gospel has changed for Melissa   Resources mentioned in this episode:  What Cannot Be Lost: How Jesus Holds Us Together When Life is Falling Apart Gospel Hope in Grief and Loss Scripture for Grief Card Set Between Grief and Glory: Lamentations Study   Access the What Cannot Be Lost Audiobook for Free: https://one-audiobooks.oneaudiobooks.app/what_cannot_be_lost_free   Connect with us: Subscribe to Daily Grace: on iOS, go to our iTunes page and click subscribe.  On Android, click this podcast RSS feed link and choose your podcast app.  If needed, you can copy this link directly into your favorite podcast app (like Stitcher or Overcast). Welcome to Daily Grace. We believe the Bible is true, trustworthy, and timeless. And we

0:17.4

want to help women like you, know and love God's Word. The Bible shows us who God is and who

0:24.6

He is, changes everything. My name is Shelby and I'm Crystal. And we want to invite you to come

0:31.2

join us as we chat about the truth of God's Word in our everyday lives. Hey everybody, welcome back

0:38.1

to the Daily Grace podcast. This is Shelby and I'm joined as always by my friend and co-host,

0:43.3

Crystal. Hey Crystal. Hey Shelby, I'm excited to be here and today we have Melissa Zaldivart joining us

0:49.7

on the podcast. Welcome Melissa. Hey, I'm glad to be here with you guys virtually. It's so

0:55.2

fun to see your faces. Yeah, we're so excited to have you on. Okay, so quick story. We met you at

1:01.8

the Gospel Coalition Women's Conference last summer and we got to hear all about this book that you

1:06.8

had been working on at the time called What Cannot Be Lost. And I remember as soon as you told us

1:12.0

about it, I texted my friend Rachel and I said, had this to your list, your to be red list, there's a

1:16.7

book coming out and it's about faith, it's about grief and little women. And that was just like

1:21.3

the perfect type of book for my friend. And so when it came out a few months later, I started

1:26.4

reading it, but it was a really busy time and I had to travel for like speaking engagements

1:31.2

and stuff for church. And so I download the audio book as I was reading it and then I would go and

1:35.6

listen to it in the car. And I just couldn't wait to finish it. So like I would listen to it when

1:40.4

I was in the car, I would start reading it when I'd get out and I have recommended it to so many

1:45.1

of my friends. And I said this earlier, they always ask me, should I read it or should I listen to

1:50.0

it? I'm like, if you could do both, I would recommend both in some capacity because I think you're

1:54.8

such a gifted writer and a gifted storyteller and communicator. And so I just enjoyed both of them

2:01.1

so much. So as soon as I finish the book, I was like, Shelby, you have to get her on the podcast

2:05.6

because I want our listeners to hear more of your story, hear more of your book. And I'm just so
