It's kind of a long, kind of a long upload. And if you'll watch the screen as the stories

Sun downers about Jack LaFountain. The temperature in the car was rapidly climbing, but

Brienne still hadn't worked up the courage to open the door of her battered bento and set

out into the cool breeze blowing in off the Pacific. She simply sat staring across the

street at the rambling old mansion. Five minutes before her appointment, she reached for

the key that would start the engine and let her drive away, instead her shaking hand fell

into her lap. It's an interview. What's the big deal? She asks the empty passenger seat.

Her eyes turned to the mansion. Brienne's momentary bravado withered. The heavy outgates set

into the arch and the low courtyard wall were open and welcome. Through them she could see the dark

green yuccas wearing clusters of white bell-shaped flowers that ring the court where the fountain

bubble of soothing imitation just decked back into old California. I can do this. I have to do

this, she thought. Brienne took a deep breath and stepped out onto Pasco del Mar. The breeze that

ruffled her Auburn hair was scented with brine borne up from the surf-crashing far below. Another

day in paradise. She had grown up in San Pedro and spent summers tanning at Cabrillo Beach, but

she didn't remember the old Adobe mansion on the cliffs that wasn't surprising. The last two

years with Kyle had taken more than just her dignity. A pair of passing surfers eyed Brienne with

undisguised appreciation, and she tugged at the hem of her skirt, sure that her slip was showing.
