Happy Halloween, and to celebrate, we have a truly creepy encounter from Lucy, who emailed to say,

0:14.6

I was driving alone on the motorway to my mum and dad's house one night, up in the Lancashire Hills.

0:19.8

It was about 8.30pm.

0:21.6

This was a stretch of motorway that had no lights along it at the time, but it was a drive I'd done hundreds of times. I was listening to the radio, thinking about my day. It was a normal journey. At one point, I looked in my rearview mirror to check for cars behind me. My stomach turned to ice. There, in the back seat, staring straight

back at me in the mirror, was myself. I was wearing different clothes, had my hair up. I was

0:45.9

wearing it down that night, and I had a blank expression on my face. I looked away and looked

back and I was still there, still staring, with the same nondescript facial expression. I looked a third time and I was still there, still staring with the same nondescript facial expression.

0:58.2

I continued on my way, completely bewildered.

1:00.5

I still have no idea what was in the back of my car, what it meant, or what, if anything, it was

1:06.6

trying to tell me.

1:07.8

Perhaps I was just tired.

1:09.1

Perhaps my eyes were playing tricks.

1:11.5

Or perhaps it was some kind of warning from myself tell me. Perhaps I was just tired. Perhaps my eyes were playing tricks. Or perhaps it was some kind of warning from myself to take extra care on that dark stretch of motorway.

1:20.8

That is the end of our Halloween Advent calendar. And behind this very last door looks quite a treat. A new series

1:29.9

of uncanny podcast beginning tonight with an hour-long Halloween special. It will be in your

1:37.1

podcast feed and on Radio 4 simultaneously at 9 p.m. tonight. See you there if you dare.
