might hold. A new national study led by the Association for Treatment of Neuoplastic Symptoms

reveals something both staggering and hopeful.

Nearly half of adults in the United States report living with ongoing pain or illness

that either has no clear explanation or isn't

responding to standard medical care. But the data also show growing openness to the idea

that the brain and nervous system play a key role in generating and maintaining these symptoms,

and that recovery is possible. In this episode, I'm joined by the researchers who led this groundbreaking study.

David D. Clark, MD, is president of the Association for Treatment of Neuropastic Symptoms.

He is also clinical assistant professor of gastroenterology emeritus at Oregon Health and Science

University in Portland, Oregon. He is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine

and practiced gastroenterology in Portland from 1984 to 2009.
