Now here's the episode. We are here with friend of the pod abbey to talk about

classic of the 20th century film stage film again hairspray. Thanks for having me. I'm always happy

to be a friend of the pod. What's your relationship with hairspray? How did it start? So I was a musical

theater kid. Big time. My friends and I, we hated gym class. We used to sing songs from wicked

and hairspray while we had to run laps. Oh my god. Make it through. We were just three fat

gals trying to get along. That's so fun. But yeah, so I was really into hairspray in high school and

then I just hadn't really ever revisited it maybe since I wrote about it a little in my master's,

but I haven't thought about it for a while. What about you? I, until prepping this episode had never

seen the original ever. So that was really fun to watch, but I saw hairspray the movie when it

came out and I don't think I remember much about it. Like I didn't think much of it. I just

remembered it and then I like the soundtrack fine, but I have a lot of thoughts about it now for sure.

Yeah. So it was really fun watching the John Waters one because I've never seen it before.

Yeah, I had only seen so my John Waters knowledge is like middleing at best. Like I've seen like

pink flamingos and I've seen a bunch of clips from some of the stuff with divine and like I've seen

the infamous clip where divine eats dog poop. I don't know if you've seen that. I haven't. Uh-uh.

Well, don't worry. No spoilers for what's to go. I've seen cry baby. That's like the only other
