Welcome to Ringer Dish. It's an anniversary. It's a history lesson. I am so delighted to be here with

Jody Walker to talk about the hairspray musical that came out 15 years ago. Jody, hello.

Juliet, I'm so excited to be here with you. This is my own personally probably most rewatched movie.

It's this, it's hairspray and castaway, I think. I'm not a big, I know, I know those are random,

but like I'm just not a big movie rewatcher, but I think I can, this can, it always comes right

back to me. Can pop it right in. It's so good. Sometimes I must be walking down the street,

and I'm like, you know what I need to listen to right now? It's the hairspray soundtrack. I mean,

I really, I love this musical movie. It was a revelation when it came out in 2007. I distinctly

recall seeing it in theaters. I think I saw it twice. Do you remember where you were when you saw

it? I don't remember where I was, but I remember the response that I had to it because I had never

heard it. Well, I had heard the name, but like, you know, I was in Texas. I had not seen this

play on Broadway. Did you see it when it was in production? No, I had just seen the original John

Mortar's movie, and like I grew up on that movie. I had seen it like so many times, but I wasn't

familiar with the musical at all. So I'd never seen the John Waters movie until after I saw the 2007

hairspray, and I was like, whoa, this is different. This is different. But both great. So I don't

remember where I was when I saw it, but I remember, like you said, like it was a revelation to me.
