But before we go there, we're not going to stray too far, though.

But I think we really need to do a little backstory and intrigue on this one,

because on the Royal Rumble, the history, because people may have heard of this, but the 1988

Royal Rumble was not, which was officially the first Royal Rumble, was not the first Royal Rumble.

It actually took place in St. Louis at the arena there on October 4th, 1987, and Jim, only

less than 2,000 people were there.

1,976 people showed up for this thing.

And it was really a dry run.

Now, Paterson was the brilliant Booker with the WWF, WWE.

Folks, if you don't know about Pat, I think you do.

If you really know wrestling, you know who

one of the greatest storytellers and a lot of the guy, one guy who really came up with all these

storylines, they would go to him about finishes and everything. It's Pat Patterson. This is something

he always wanted to do. I mean, there's battle royals, which we know, all, let's say there's 30 combatants, they all start in the ring at the same time. And Pat came up with this concept. He thought it would be awesome to start with, you know, two combatants that they come, and then people coming in, you know, wrestlers coming in every two minutes after that. Well, they tried this, kind of a dry run to see how it would work

in St. Louis at this event. And it was basically a house show. And I think there were 20, you know,

20 different wrestlers there and some big names. But they had, it was, you know, one of those nights

that they had regular matches going on too so everybody that was in a match also

appeared in the in the royal rumble at the end of it well they the last two that were going to be

in the ring in this uh where it was one man gang and jy d junkyard dog well they made the mistake

that now they had wrestled earlier in uh the evening, and then they came out for this.
