Joining us now is Dave Carpenter and a little background on Dave.

Dave and I have known each other for a long time.

Dave's wife Pam is a great woman and was my mother's best friend and I've known Dave for a long time.

He worked in the Secret Service for 27 years and he was on the PPD, the presidential

protection detail for five different presidents most recently with President Clinton.

Then he was appointed as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for diplomatic security in 1998. He did that for about four or five years and we just kind of want to get a professional perspective, a secret service perspective on what happened.

Jason. Hi guys. Hello Dave. So before we talk about what actually happened on

Saturday, kind of just give us your perspective on the preparation for especially for an outdoor

event when there's a president speaking what you know how much time do you

need how many people what were the resources that you need

what's the communication with the local authorities all that jest

well uh... typically jason you you get about a week uh... in the week in the best of worlds.

The staff will say we're gonna do

this function at this location in a week

and you're able to launch

uh... an advanced team that far advance

sometimes you don't get that much time which which puts the pressure not only on

the secret service

but on the locals, they have responsibilities beyond that.

This can come assist us as a surprise to them.
