Welcome to M.K. True Crime. I'm Dave Aaronberg, former state attorney for Palm Beach County, Florida, and current managing partner of Dave Aaronberg Law. Here's what's on the MK True Crime docket today. A juror in the Corey Richens trial is speaking out. We'll share what the four

0:22.9

person had to say about finding Corey Richens guilty. A retired major general from the United

0:29.3

States Air Force has mysteriously vanished. We'll share the latest updates and theories. Later,

0:35.6

we'll be joined by Scott Reich, criminal defense attorney and host

0:39.1

of crime talk to discuss where the Nancy Guthrie investigation stands and more. I'm joined today by

0:46.8

my co-host, Ashley Merchant, Criminal Defense Lawyer out of Atlanta, Georgia, and as I'd like to say,

0:52.7

originally a Florida woman.

0:55.2

Ashley, Corey Richens was found guilty of fatally poisoning her husband Eric earlier this week.

1:01.5

So what happens now in the legal system? What's next for Corey?

1:06.1

Yeah, well, we have a couple things that have happened recently. You know, we finally heard from some jurors,

1:10.1

but just to catch everyone up, the jury found Richens guilty on all counts on Monday,

1:14.9

including aggravated murder, attempted criminal homicide, two counts of insurance fraud,

1:20.0

forgery with that lovely handwriting expert that I loved, and finding that she gave her husband

1:25.1

five times the lethal dose of fentanyl. So she's got up next

1:29.1

sentencing on May 13th, which just happens to be Eric's birthday. I don't think that was by coincidence.

1:34.4

And I'm really surprised that the defense agreed to that. But after that, she'll be going through

1:38.5

the appellate process. And what does that look like? Really, that looks like a lot of time and

1:43.0

lawyers combing through a file trying to figure

1:45.4

out if something happened in the case that was wrong. But she faces up to, well, she faces two

1:50.2

options. She faces 25 years to life in prison or she could get life without the possibility

1:55.7

of parole. The judge is the one that decides it. And so we think that the judge will probably hear

1:59.5

from lots of different witnesses, the attorneys are going to argue, but also victim impact statements. So we'll probably hear from Eric's family. We may hear from some of Corey's family, you know, both of their families to determine whether or not she should have life or life without parole. And then the judge is the one that's going to make that decision. So, you know, I'm curious, Dave, what's your prediction on this sentence that Corey's going to receive from the judge?
