| 0:22.9 | November the 5th. When our kids were little, we bought them some of these books that were in a series |

| 0:35.0 | actually entitled Not So Brilliant Brits, and it was on Guy Fox. |
| 0:40.0 | Guy Fox is at the center of this story. He was born in 1570 into a Protestant home, but in his |
| 0:47.2 | teenage years, he converted to Roman Catholicism. Shortly thereafter, he went to Spain and fought |

| 0:55.9 | and then he was recruited because of his military experience by Robert Katesby |
| 1:01.5 | and joined a group of conspirators, Catholic conspirators, papists, as the English would have |
| 1:08.7 | called them then, who wanted to blow up Parliament. They rented a |
| 1:14.6 | basement underneath Parliament, loaded in 36 barrels of gunpowder, and the plan was on November |
| 1:21.9 | 5 they would blow up Parliament. On that day, King James, the Queen, the Prince, the Lord's, House of Commons members, |
| 1:31.0 | archbishop, bishops would all be gathered there, and there was enough gunpowder to probably level |
| 1:37.2 | the entire parliament building. Well, somebody sent an anonymous letter, tipping off one of the |
| 1:42.6 | lords. It made its way to the king. The king figured |
| 1:45.4 | out something was up. They sent the troops to go and inspect. And sure enough, on the evening |
| 1:51.4 | of November 4th, Guy Fawkes was arrested as he was guarding those gunpowder barrels in the |
| 1:58.9 | basement under Parliament. The next year, the King issued a proclamation. |
