In 1970, a group of men, including Irish government ministers and a member of the Irish Army,

were arrested on charges of conspiring

to illegally import arms. Captain James Kelly of Terranior Dublin and Mr John Kelly of

Belfast were in court. The men have pleaded not guilty to a charge of conspiring to import

arms illegally between the 1st of March and the 24th of April. They were a mandate on

continuing bail and the case was adjourned until next Friday. Fifty years later, the effects

of this crisis are still spoken of by the children of those involved. I knew there was

something drama going on. There was a lot of activity outside the house. There was a lot of photographers

and two big special ranchmen.

These were bad people for some reason had come to take away the dad.

I must have been swinging on the gate.

Some of the neighbours say, who are you?

And my name's Bruno Kelly.

And where's your mama or daddy?

Or Jack Lynch put my daddy in jail.

And that was bred into me.

And they punched them to their hearts.

They did, they punched them and kicked them, you know.

But the following day, it was when my father got a heart attack.
