On Sunday evening, the first night of the Jewish Festival of Hanukkah, two gunmen opened fire on a thousand strong crowd gathered near Sydney's Bondi Beach to celebrate the holiday, killing 15 people.

And the two gunmen armed with six rifles and dressed in black began shooting into the crowd of largely Jewish families from a pedestrian bridge over a car park at around quarter to seven local time.

Over the course of the blatantly anti-Semitic attack, around 50 rounds were fired by the two men, later identified as a father and son.

The two shooters appear to have chosen their position to inflict maximum carnage.

The footbridge is fought to have given the attackers a raged vantage point over the parkland where families had gathered around 200 feet away to enjoy music, face painting and a barbecue.
