Millions of people along the Gulf Coast are bracing for severe flooding as a tropical storm approaches.

The sprawling system is set to bring significant rain and possibly flash flooding this week,

from the Florida panhandle to Louisiana and parts of eastern Texas.

Here's CNN's Alison Chinchal with the forecast.

Hey, Joe, regardless of whether this system becomes our next named Tropical Storm or not,

it is still expected to bring heavy rain and the potential for flooding along the Gulf Coast the next few days.

There is a level three out of four risk for flooding across extreme Southern Louisiana Thursday,

where as much as four inches of rain could fall.

Flood watches are in effect for roughly 5 million people from Lake Charles, Louisiana,

all the way through Gulfport, Mississippi.

Additional rain chances are possible all through the weekend.
