If there was ever such a thing as a tortured artist in motocross, I think surely it would probably

be Mickey Diamond. The 1986 and 1987 125 national champion was a favorite rider mine back in the day,

and I remember magazine stories proclaiming his love of poetry and all things Motley Crew.

Mickey was forced out of Honda by a silly A.M.A. rule that made winning a bad thing,

and he went to Factory Yamaha for the next three years.

Didn't really work out over there either, and then the Mick went to Europe.

Man, I can't help but think that maybe Mickey Diamond's career would have been different

if it weren't for that rule, saying that if you win twice, you got to leave.

And this podcast is a real good one, because Mickey gets into everything.

Looking back in his career, he realizes that he made some mistakes.

Along the way, and he doesn't

really sound like a guy that's bitter or blames anyone else. He sounds like a guy that's at peace

with himself and doesn't really blame everybody like I said. And I even give him a chance to,

and he doesn't take it. So, listening as the Mick talks about his days at Honda, days with the crew, and of course, his days in Europe winding up his career.

And don't forget, Mickey's made a nice comeback in the Supermodal area and even won a title, an AMA title a couple years back.

So he's just coming back from a broken leg right now, but he is taking part in the series.
