Welcome to the Trauma Therapist podcast. My name is Guy McPherson. I interview incredible people

0:05.7

who've dedicated their lives to helping those who've been impacted by trauma. A big thank you

0:11.0

to our sponsors and our guests who are supporting this show. Hey, everyone. I am so excited to be on

0:18.6

Guy McPherson's Traumathorapist podcast today. For those of you who know me, hi, for those who don't yet know me, my name is Esther Goldstein. I'm a trauma specialist, and I have a practice in New York. My book actually just came out with New Harbinger, EMDR for anxiety. Here's what I'm, I know, it's really exciting. Here is what I'm really excited about.

0:42.6

Today I'm having a conversation with Veronica Loenbach from Sweden.

0:45.3

Super excited to have a conversation.

0:49.6

And this is the kind of conversation that's really going to make you pause and really will shift the way you show up as a therapist, psychologist, and honestly even as a human.

1:45.9

So Veronica, can you first tell us? I got to meet Veronica on one of my trauma programs that I run. They say that when you teach people, it's not really that you teach, actually, the people you work with teach you, and Veronica is one of those people. So Veronica, tell us a little bit who you are. Tell us about the book that you wrote. And then let's talk about the conversation that we're going to be having today. Yeah. So thank you so much for inviting me to join. I love that we color-coded like the awesomeness. So people listening, you can't see. But me and Esther, we're like, what are you going to wear today? We're really, we're really synced up. Guys, we did not coordinate it. We got out of the world. We're like, we're matching. Okay. So, yeah, Veronica, 11 book. I work as a therapist. I have, like, the foundational psychotherapy training from Sweden, and then I had your program, and I've added some stuff and for me the the core is affect focused therapy and body based and body oriented methods

1:56.3

and I specialize on nervous system regulation which is what I wrote my book about.

2:02.3

I've also worked as research assistants in a study where we used body-based, body-oriented

2:12.2

therapy on complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

2:15.4

So the body as the vehicle for exploration and the body as the way in to understand

2:24.1

and get to know myself in therapy because like you know and like you also work as

2:31.2

there, it's been so mind heavy and focused for so long, but it's like,

2:36.9

how, how can we not use the body? Like, where's the body? And so I'm really appreciative of the

2:43.4

growth in awareness regarding nervous system regulation. I've been working with this for so many years

2:53.5

and in the place that it's taking, not only in trauma, but also in like the public eye and the

3:00.1

public knowledge. And with the growth of that, maybe some things need, need just a retake. So we, so we have a good understanding of what

3:11.7

it actually is that we do. Yeah. And I know one of the things that Veronica was saying, she is,

3:17.3

she's written a book and has Instagram. We'll talk about that after. We'll link it up in the show notes.

3:23.1

But one of the things Veronica, I know I asked you was like, tell me about the research. And you said that it's like private and it's not yet, you can't talk about it. But we are going to have a conversation. For those of you all that are on here is that there's so much hype and talk about working with a nervous system, working with a body. But like, what does that actually mean?

3:45.6

We're going to give some terminologies to help us as therapists and as humans really embody that.
