13 years ago today, New York State's Marriage Equality Act took effect. One of the thousands of gay

New Yorkers who took advantage of the new law was Evan Wilson, an attorney who's been known

to call himself Mr. Marriage.

And as the leading architect of the movement to legalize same-sex marriage in the U.S.

he's definitely earned that title. By the time the Supreme Court issued the landmark ruling in Obergefell

versus Hodges that made marriage equality the law of the land in June 2015,

Evan had been grappling with the issue for more than three decades.
