1.1 verses 3 through 9.

It's one of my favorite passages in all the Bible.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

According to His great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven

for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed

in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a

little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness

of your faith, more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found

to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation

of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him,

you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

There's so much we could talk about here. I actually was preaching through 1st Peter over the last couple of years, and this text in particular, so preached on 1st Peter 1, 3 through 12.

I don't necessarily love recommending my own sermons, but just what this word did in my own heart

as I was preparing and then proclaiming the truth in it, I would encourage you. And there's a lot

of good truth in 1st Peter 1, 3 through 12 to soak in that I would point you to even in that

sermon. But I don't have time to do that here,

and I want to lead us to pray here, but just to summarize, give you a little cliff notes.

1 Peter is written to Christians who were suffering, who were struggling in their faith,

actually suffering because of their faith.
